• Notice to Parents of Private School Students

If your child attends a private school and you suspect your child might have a disability, the district where the private school is located is responsible for the evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. You will need to contact the Director of Special Education where your child’s private school is located and make a formal request for an evaluation for special education.

If your child is found eligible for special education, but you decide not to enroll your child in a public school, your child will have no individual right to special education and related services. However, your child may be eligible to receive some support from the district where the private school is located, through an individual service plan (ISP).

If your child is found eligible for special education and you decide to enroll your child in a public school, your district of residence will develop an individualized education plan (IEP) which would provide a free and appropriate public education.
